What To Do When You Know What You Want (But Can't Find It Anywhere)

No matter how many hair accessories you’ve seen, have you found yourself looking for something a little more? Maybe something that speaks to you, or reminds you of something or someone?

It’s easy to find beautiful accessories online and in bridal boutiques, but what if you’re looking for something a little different? A little bit more than the classic pearls or clear crystals and rhinestones?

When I met my first bride, Leanne, I quickly learned that what she was looking for was hard to put in to words, because it was based around the way she felt about certain things and memories that came from them. It’s hard to explain the way something makes you feel isn’t it? So it’s understandable that you can’t quite put your finger on or find the words for what you’d like for your accessory.

Thanks very much for all you did, you helped make the day one to remember.

I’d love to say that Google is your friend but, when it comes to finding things, it still may not hand you what you’re looking for on a silver platter. Paid ads will also dominate in any search for hair accessories, as will more well known designers, but there will be someone out there in cyberspace that is creating exactly what you want. It may take a bit of digging through the results to uncover the hidden gem you’re after, but it will absolutely be worth it!

The first thing I can recommend is to be really specific with your search terms. Include as many details as you can and be prepared to sift through a few pages.

The second thing is to do your research on designers. Search for accessory designers that are local to you or who are in your country and then take a look at their work; if they don’t fit, search further afield. Search for images on Pinterest and find designers that way and ask questions in boutiques if you see something close to what you’re looking for.

Armed with that information, you then know which designers are creating pieces similar to the one you have in mind. While they may not have created the exact piece you’re looking for, the majority will be happy to take on a custom order to help you get what you want.

By choosing a designer whose style aligns with what you’re looking for, you are putting yourself in a good position to get exactly what you want. You will be in safer hands knowing that they are working in their zone of genius.

There’s also something really exciting about seeing something come together from your own ideas. It’s a really lovely process that you will be part of, which is far more special than selecting something off the shelf.
