The inspiration behind the new Inspired collection

the-inspired-collection

In just a couple of short weeks (get it in your diaries - Thursday 30th March!) I'll be launching my new collection (but if you're impatient like me, you can pre-order your favourite here, because I'm nice like that!) so I thought it was about time that I shared the little journey that I've taken to put it together and introduce you not only to the pretty pieces themselves, but the beautiful personalities that inspired each one.

I wasn't intending to release another collection just yet; I'd planned to make a few pieces to add to La Boutique and my Etsy shop but that was about it. I was sat in my work room, trying a few things out when the piece I was working on reminded me of something and that's when I decided that this was the time to design something beautiful, timeless and unique, and I knew just the people to help me do it.

This collection is more than just pretty pieces; it's a dedication to some amazing women who have inspired (hence the name!) and supported me throughout my business journey, built me up whenever I've doubted myself, changed the course of my brand and given me sound advice and reassurance when I needed it - this is a small expression of my gratitude to them and I hope you love the new pieces too!

Jane

So let's start with the accessory that started it all, the "Jane" tiara, which was inspired by my mum. I was very lucky that my mum was very supportive of my decision to leave my teaching job and try something new and her encouragement, along with the rest of my family, was what I needed to take the final step into the unknown. Mum wore a bridal cap when she married my dad and the cage detail on this band was inspired by that.

Why you'll love it: It's a distinctive piece with just the right amount of sparkle and perfect for all hair lengths and colours. The cage detail sits across your head and it's lightweight and comfortable to wear - always a positive in my books!

Claire

Inspired by one of my muses, the Claire forehead band features beautiful soft pink jade, silver beads and crystals. Claire and I became friends after I designed her brooch bouquet, corsages and cake toppers for her wedding and she has been my rock since then, filling me with optimism when I doubt myself and giving me suggestions for how I could move the business forward. I was also really pleased that she agreed to modelling some of the pieces for the new collection, including her namesake accessory.

Why you'll love it: The subtle colours are a fresh alternative to most other vines without being too overpowering, while the strands that come down at the front give a nod to the Art Deco era without being too fussy. This piece would also look lovely worn across the top of your head as a hair band too!

Katie

The Katie vine was named after another of my muses. Katie's Art Deco wedding, which inspired the first revision of my business only a year ago, also inspired this vine, which features handmade ivory clay leaves and gold crystals. I love the simplicity of this vine with it's repetitive pattern and rich gold wire.

Why you'll love it: It's a versatile vine that can be worn across your forehead, weaved into a plait, pinned around an up-do...perfect if you're looking for something subtle yet elegant.

Charlotte

The last of my muses, Charlotte's cake topper has popped up in a few blog posts and in my displays for wedding fayres, with her tattooed legs and Bulldog, Luna. Charlotte found me through Etsy last year and we struck up a friendship as a result and now email each other most days. She's my biggest cheerleader and every girl needs that in their life! The Charlotte vine was inspired by the pastel colours of her wedding and features Swarovski crystals and pearls in rose gold tones and silver wire (although I think it would look lovely on gold too!)

Why you'll love it: The beautiful colours and variety of shapes in the pearls and crystals add interest to this vine, which will look lovely in both dark and light hair. Again, its versatility is a plus point and it would be perfect for you if you're looking for something sparkly for your special day with a hint of colour.

Nicky

Nicky and I met at university and our friendship has stayed strong for the last 15 years. She has always built me up, reminded me of how much I've achieved, given me great business advice (she knows her stuff!) and will happily listen to my plans and reassure me that I'm on the right track. I was her maid of honour for her wedding and she was mine a few months later and these hair pins were inspired by the wildflowers she had on the tables at her wedding. Featuring silver vines and flowers created from Swarovski pearls in a range of colours, these pins would look beautiful grouped together or pinned in to twists or plaits.

Why you'll love them: These pins look great individually or worn clustered together and you can coordinate the colour of the pearls to match your wedding colours, making them perfect not only for you as a bride, but for your bridesmaids too!

Sophie

Sophie used to work with my husband and he commissioned me to make a set of cake toppers as a gift for her wedding, with her dressed as Harry Potter and her husband dressed as Batman. We quickly became friends soon after. She never fails to make me laugh and is always sharing my posts on Facebook with anyone that'll look at them! I'm so pleased she was happy to don her wedding dress for this photo shoot too, and here she is modelling her namesake accessory :)

Why you'll love it: Predominantly silver with the right balance of sparkle, this vine is perfect if you're looking for something different that's not too pearly. As with most hair vines, it's really versatile too and looks great in both dark and light hair.

Syreeta

Inspired by my friend Syreeta's calm personality and love of nature, this vine features a repeated pattern of single pearls and flowers. Syreeta has always been quick to reassure me that I'm on the right path, seen my journey in business as a positive one and I always feel a sense of calm when I'm with her. The simplicity of this vine is my interpretation of her calmness and there is a set number of twists between each branch to keep the pattern regular.

Why you'll love it: Simple yet effective, this vine is pretty without being overpowering and would be perfect for you if you're looking for something subtle to accessorise your bridal do. Weave it into plaits, wrap it around an up-do or wear it across your forehead for rustic bohemian elegance. Also available in gold.
